Mediation and Advocacy Competences and Tactics for Sustainable Futures
Youth workers from Austria, France, Croatia, Latvia, Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon and Tunisia meet in Vienna in November 2026.
Who we are
The Arab Organisation of Diplomacy (AOD) is an independent organisation based in Vienna. It is the first in the Middle East and North Africa to combine a network of experts and advisers, an academic training initiative, a civil-society association and a research centre.
Our work is built on cultural diplomacy: international trainings, simulations and conferences where young people learn to understand each other, negotiate and cooperate across cultures.

Since 2017
AOD began with MENAMUN, the Middle East and North Africa Model United Nations. In Sousse in 2017, 180 young delegates took on the roles of diplomats and ambassadors for the first time.
The AOD approach
Every activity we run brings together four strands of work, so that what participants learn is grounded in research and carried back into their communities.
01
Articles, studies, position papers and policy analyses, shared with members and stakeholders.
02
Expertise on the Euro-Mediterranean landscape: regional power shifts, conflict resolution, youth empowerment and peacebuilding.
03
Evidence-based exercises in diplomacy, conflict transformation, intercultural dialogue, critical thinking and project management.
04
Campaigns with civil society, journalists and activists that raise awareness of human rights and cultural diplomacy.
Our work is anchored in UN Security Council resolutions 2250, 2419 and 2535 on Youth, Peace and Security, and in the UN Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.
Working together
We work with youth organisations, universities and public institutions across Europe and the Arab world. Our international trainings are co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
Membership
Members are the heart of AOD. Membership is open to everyone aged 21 and over, from any field of study or work, and to organisations with a social or development mission.
